hey laurence, , long time dreamer of life at sea, sailing the world, travel nd meeting new people , my main profession has been, a hand crafted log home builder, started as a child here in ohio st. , moved to washington st in 1977, started a scribe to fit log business , in seattle, sold there for 3 years then, i went to mie sugi , japan , outside osaka, lived and worked ,there for 3 years building log resort, trained and shipped 16 horses for dude ranch which i built and trained their staff , employed 18 americans there, and two cowgirls i took to help train the staff, wonderful experience and people , i’m 61 ,rescue diver, lived on the beach in the philippines for 1.5 years dove there 3 times a day, sailed there on a charter 48 ft, i set up for 7 of the other students and dive master , we dove wrecks , not my favorite , like the corrals , fish, etc and treasure hunting , we did treasure hunting ,off sabang island, 15th century ship , it has been years sense i’ve dove but quick study, have sailed from miami to bahamas thru the cays , dove there, worked on that boat , there was a new first mate , no experience , so i did his job, and trained him with what i knew, the , capt was worn out , so i sailed his 50 ft quite a bit , took care of his guests. I had a 22 ft in seattle i lived there in seattle ,for 22 years, lived on board with my dogs on lake washington, sailed a lot of mornings and many evenings, that was in the 80s , as a child i saw south pacific and , fell in love with , the sea , and island girls , married a pilipina for a short time , first marriage at 38 , did not last , here in isa , was told i should have not left the philippines , well better off and happier on my own, i was planning to buy a sail boat and make a sailing and diving business there when , i retired , but the overall costs above the purchase has , slowed my thinking, i can do it on my own, so i have been, trying to find a partner , but not sure how, have been looking at a 420 and 450 hunter center cockpit, would be interested in your trip, to learn , more , and eventually get my capt license , thanks for your attention to this matter, please let me know what yu think , i;m pretty good cook also, thanks pegasus

I’m stunned and honored to even receive your communique. Wow. I’m all but speechless. Thank you.
With all your info, I’m not sure what exactly would be your expectations of me. So if you could expound just a bit on what you would hope to find in me, I’d appreciate it.
You have made some wonderful choices in your life, your experiences your reward. Quite enviable. I was not so wise or fortunate. Nor did I make the best of choices. I was taught to model the norms of family and close friends, which just was not in your circle of exposure and influence.
But regardless, here we are today. A few weeks ago, I did get offshore with a friend of mine in a 54 foot sailboat. There was not much wind and all. What was there, was right in line with our course, and so we had a severe tach. Around sundown, we added the assistance of the diesel and motored through the night. Our original destination was 100 miles off Galveston at a place called the Flower Garden Bank. We were on a shakedown cruise. By daybreak we had only gotten 50 miles, and decided to turn back. We motored coming back as the wind had all but died.
Regardless it was a wonderful trip. I learned a lot about sailing, and stood my watches faithfully. I was the helmsman coming back into the Galveston/Houston ship channel. I really enjoyed it. But I also learned that sailing is quite vigorous at times. Not enduring any storms I realized that those kind of things would make the whole thing even more taxing.
So I’m not sure that “my time” has not already passed before it has even begun.
I do love to snorkel, and still desire to get a scuba certification. I love the underwater world, and I could eat fish on a daily basis. So exploring the Caribbean would be a wonderful way to slide through my final years while my health remains.
So tell me what you hope to find in me. Pleasant company? I’m that. A good friend? I think I could be that. A watch partner? I’m up to that but not sure I’d consent to an ocean crossing by sail. 🙂
So I do hope I will hear from you again. Again, it is my great honor to make your acquaintance. We shall see what transpires as we discover ourselves together for whatever is left in our opportunities to put to see and sail off into the sunset.

Interesting… was helping fixing another Morgan in Indiantown i January, then had to go back home to sweden while the others went out to Bahamas for diving… how old are you?

Hello, my name is Jeff McCarthy. I am a retired SCADA operator for a local utility company. I just adopted Daedalus, a wooden 34 ft sailboat thats moored in edgwood corrently whil I refurbish her….I would love to learn sailing from a master such as yourself(naah im not buttering ya up). I am fairly healthy, follow orders well, can climb and get around quite well, and am a great mcguyver jak leg carpenter. Although I dont have the experience for this trip. I would love for you to keep me in mind for any local outings etc.. I live across the BIG ditch in southern de about 90 miles away, and would be glad to come on any local excursions, and can do it on short notice….please keep me in mind…..sincerely, Jeff McCarthy

This might sound a little adventurous but here goes… We are a family of 3 including 3 year old boy trying to get to Columbia. we are in Guadeloupe right now….. No sailing experience but want to learn. We are musicians, easy going vegans, who have a low tech attitude to life… we dont need much. I’m English and my partner is from Israel speaking very good english. Does this sound like an interesting adventure to you… I wonder!
